Downers Grove Sept. 1, 2010 Students in grades 3 through 6 who live in either DeKalb, DuPage, Kane or Kendall counties are invited to participate in the 17th annual water conservation poster contest sponsored by PAMCANI (Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois.) This year's theme is "Be a Water Cop Save Every Drop."
"Safe, clean and reliable water for human use is becoming more and more scarce around the world," remarked PAMCANI Public Education Committee Chair Cindy Browning (Arrow Plumbing & Heating Aurora, IL). "Our organization has been encouraging communities and their children to pay attention to this dilemma for nearly a decade through this awareness campaign, and it grows every year. Think about it: just two decades ago the recycling of glass, paper, or metal seemed like a foreign concept, and now it's second nature. As time goes on, we believe water conservation will be as routine as making the most of recycling programs. That's why we're continuing this effort with new generations of kids, and we have no intention of stopping."
Entries are judged at each grade level and the grand prize winner is chosen from all entries submitted. Each entry can be rendered in any art medium and must be on 8 ½ x 11, 11 x 17 or 12 x 18" size paper (No Poster Board or Cardboard). Posters must encourage water conservation and contain the theme "Be a Water Cop - Save Every Drop." They will be judged for originality, design and theme topic. Each student is allowed only one entry, and winners will be announced by November 15, 2010.
Prizes include U.S. Savings Bonds of $200, $150 and $100 and are awarded to the 1st 3rd place winners respectively, at each grade level. The grand prize winner receives a $500 U.S. Savings Bond and is selected from among all entries. The winning school also receives a $2,000 Computer Discount Warehouse gift certificate. Honorable mention awards ($75 US Savings Bonds) may also be awarded. In addition, the schools of all 1st, 2nd or 3rd place winners will receive checks for $100, $50 and $25, respectively, for each winning entry.
A detailed copy of all the rules and further information can be obtained from the PAMCANI office at (630) 960-3970 or at www.pamcani.org.
