Downers Grove, Ill.; June 5, 2009 – Twenty-three students representing seven elementary schools in Lake and McHenry Counties earned awards in the Be Water Friendly — Make Every Drop Count poster contest sponsored recently by the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois (PAMCANI).
Students from two schools in Waukegan took 16 of the 23 prizes, eight from
the Academy of Our Lady and eight from St. Anastasia school.
“We are gratified by the imaginative work all the students have done as well as by the cooperation of their teachers. We are delighted with the high standards they have maintained over the 15 years we have been sponsoring a poster program to encourage water conservation,” said S.J. Peters, executive director of PAMCANI.
Grand Prize Won By Woodstock’s Northwood Middle School
Leslie Guerra, a 6th grader at Woodstock’s Northwood Middle School, won the
Grand Prize of a $500 U.S. Savings Bond and a $2,000 Computer Discount Warehouse
gift certificate for the school, Peters announced.
Other prizes were awarded for 1st through 3rd place and optional honorable
mentions for each grade level; the winning students received U.S. Savings
Bonds of $200, $150, $100 or $75, respectively. In addition, schools that had
first-, second- or third-place individual winners received $100, $50 or $25,
respectively, for each of their winners.
The other winners are:
Buffalo Grove, St. Mary School: Emily Rusinek, 5th grade, 3rd place; Maddie Kempf and Katarina Stephan, both 5th grade, honorable mention.
Crystal Lake, St. Thomas The Apostle School: Mariel Ronquillo, 4th grade, 1st place.
Lake Villa, Prince of Peace School: Ashley Rayan, 4th grade, 3rd place.
Wadsworth, Newport Elementary School: Jennifer Rome, 5th grade, 1st place.
Waukegan, Academy of Our Lady: Phedra Wade, Jenny Aguilera, Ola Bartolik and Carlo Castellanos, all 3rd grade, honorable mention; Victoria Amponsah, 4th grade, honorable mention; Leslye Franco, 5th grade, 2nd place; Monica Zamora, 6th grade, 1st place and Jialexy Izquierdo, 6th grade, 3rd place.
Waukegan, St. Anastasia School: Haley Gonzalez, 3rd grade, 1st place; Ben Walker, 3rd grade, 2nd place; Olivia Landree, 3rd grade, 3rd place; Kayla Martinez, 4th grade, 2nd place; Aaron Wagan, 5th grade, honorable mention; Roberto Delgadillo, 6th grade, 2nd place; Caroline Nunez and Jordan Needham, both 6th grade, honorable mention.
