Downers Grove, Ill.; May 11, 2009 — Some 58,231 meals were funded for the Northern Illinois Food Bank by the Second Annual February Food Drive recently completed by the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois (PAMCANI) along with UA Plumbers Local 93, Volo, and UA Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local 501, Aurora. The inaugural drive a year ago generated 30,736 meals.
PAMCANI itself donated $5,000 this year, enough for 30,000 meals. While all three sponsoring organizations each contributed cash and food products, additional food as well as cash was donated by their individual members and the general public.
“Given the tough economic times we’re living in today, we are especially grateful for the outstanding support of our members and the general public in our effort to help sink hunger year-round in our communities,” said S.J. Peters, executive director of PAMCANI.
“As food and fuel prices continue to climb and jobs are lost at an alarming rate,” said Shannon Thompson, promotions manager at Northern Illinois Food Bank, “many more families are finding it hard to make ends meet. The Northern Illinois Food Bank is extremely grateful to PAMCANI and all participants who recognize that need and are rising to the occasion to help their hungry neighbors.”
