Downers Grove, Ill.; Dec. 10, 2008 – Twenty-one students have won prizes in the “Be Water Friendly – Make Every Drop Count” poster contest held recently for third- through sixth-graders by the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois (PAMCANI). They represent 11 elementary schools in DeKalb, DuPage, Kane and Kendall Counties.
“We are gratified by the imaginative work all the students have done as well as by the cooperation of their teachers. We are delighted with the high standards they have maintained over the 15 years we have been sponsoring a poster program to encourage water conservation,” said S.J. Peters, executive director of PAMCANI.
Prairieview, Downers Grove Wins Grand Prize
The Grand Prize of a $500 U.S. Savings Bond was won by Jessica Fortin, a 4th grader at Prairieview Elementary School in Downers Grove; the school was awarded a $2,000 Computer Discount Warehouse gift certificate.
Other prizes were awarded for 1st through 3rd place and optional honorable mentions in each grade level; the winning students received U.S. Savings Bonds of $200, $150, $100 or $75, respectively. In addition, schools that had first-, second- or third-place individual winners received $100, $50 or $25, respectively.
The other winners are:
Aurora: Eckert, 4th grade, 1st place, Wheatlands Elementary School.
Batavia: Amanda Flens, 4th grade, 3rd place, Grace McWayne School.
Clarendon Hills: Molly Gates, 6th grade, 1st place, Clarendon Hills Middle School.
Downers Grove: Emma Bochar, 5th grade, 1st place and Sydney Foley, 5th grade, 3rd place, both of St. Mary of Gostyn School.
Elgin: Hannah Demel, 6th grade, 2nd place and Sierra Carr, 6th grade, honorable mention, both of Fox River Country Day School.
Glen Ellyn: Audrey Knapp, 3rd grade, 1st place, St. Petronille School.
Glendale Heights: Maria Shenny, 5th grade, 2nd place, G. Stanley Hall School; Danielle Kaplan, 5th grade, honorable mention, Blackhawk School; Anna Jenella O. Galang and Giselle Almodovar, both 5th grade and honorable mention, Reskin School.
Lombard: Ricky Van De Carr, 4th grade, 2nd place, York Center School.
Naperville: Hanna Silagi, 3rd grade, 2nd place; Annelisa Burns, 3rd grade, 3rd place; Emma Hanson, 3rd grade, honorable mention; Aparna Chaganti, 5th grade, honorable mention; all of May Watts School.
Sycamore: Alex Tritt, 6th grade 3rd place, Sycamore Middle School.
Willowbrook: Bianka Ksiazek and Isabella V. Anastassoff, both 6th grade and honorable mention, Westview Hills Middle School.
