PAMCANI and UA Locals 501 and Local 93 Teaming Up to Sink Hunger

Downers Grove, Ill.; Jan. 2008 — UA Plumbers Local 93 and UA Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local 501 are teaming up with the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois (PAMCANI) to launch the First Annual February Food Drive to benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) in DuPage, DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, Lake and McHenry Counties. “Though the traditional winter holiday food drives are over, the need stays as high as ever afterwards,” explained S.J. Peters, Executive Director of PAMCANI.

Donations of canned goods and other non-perishable food items will be accepted at selected PAMCANI member offices (and both Local Union Halls) through out the six counties all through February as will checks made out to the “Northern Illinois Food Bank.” According to Shannon Thompson, Promotions Director for the Northern Illinois Food Bank, a $1.00 donation can provide up to 9 lbs of food due to the reach and buying power of the NIFB. All donations, both food and monetary without exception, will go to the NIFB.

Donations will be welcomed from contractors’ staff, families, friends, suppliers and customers as well as union members, staff, families and friends, and the community at large. The drive will also depend on, and appreciate, the support of Organized Labor throughout Northern Illinois. For the latest, complete listing of donation sites, visit www.pamcani.org. In early March, PAMCANI contractors plan to deliver the food collected at their shops to the nearest UA hall, either Local 93 in Volo, Illinois or Local 501 in Aurora, Illinois. PAMCANI praised Local 501 Business Manager Larry Allport and Local 93 Business Manager Lynn Karner for partnering with the contractors of the association for this worthwhile cause.
