Two Apprenticeship Preview Events

Downers Grove, Ill.; Oct. 11, 2007 – Two free family events to find the best and the brightest for apprenticeships in plumbing and pipefitting will be held by the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois (PAMCANI) in collaboration with UA Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 501 and UA Plumbers Local Union 93 on Nov. 3 in Aurora and Dec. 1 in Volo. Emphasizing the hard work, the commitment and the ability to recognize life-changing opportunity when it comes along, the events theme is “Apprenticeship Preview: What It Takes To Make It As A Union Plumber or Pipefitter.”

Attractive Career Opportunity
The events will tell potential apprenticeship applicants who have “the right stuff” – as well as their families, friends and teachers – about this well-paid, high-demand, fast-growing career opportunity. The two Apprenticeship Previews will be held at the respective Local’s training facilities – featuring guided tours along with videos, industry overview presentations, and conversations with instructors, contractors, union leaders, apprentices and journeymen:
Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – at UA Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 501 Union Hall, 1295 Butterfield Rd., Aurora. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – at UA Plumbers Local Union 93 Union Hall, 31855 N. US Highway 12, Volo.

Emphasize Pay and Benefits While Learning
The events will focus on what is required to qualify as an apprentice and to succeed in the five-year training program as well as the long-term benefits and employment stability that follow. They emphasize that apprentices are paid and receive union benefits while in the program, and so incur no tuition or related financial burden – and that their jobs are not exportable. The events also identify the many values of union affiliation and the numerous options available for career growth in the field.
