Twenty Area Students Win Awards in "It's A Snap - Turn Off The Tap" Poster Contest

Downers Grove, Ill.; May 31, 2006 - Twenty third- through sixth-grade students living in Lake and McHenry Counties earned awards in the seventh annual poster contest held recently by thePlumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois. The competition theme, "It's A Snap - Turn Off The Tap," encourages students and their families to conserve water.

Crystal Lake Third-Grader Wins Grand Prize
Rachel Melchionna, a 3rd grader at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Crystal Lake, won the $500 U.S. Savings Bond Grand Prize; her school was awarded a $2,000 CDW (Computer Discount Warehouse) gift certificate.

Individual Prizes For Grade Levels, Schools
Prizes also were awarded for 1st through 3rd place and optional honorable mentions in each grade level. The winning students received U.S. Savings Bonds of $200, $150, $100 or $75, respectively. In addition, schools that had first-, second- or third-place individual winners received $100, $50 or $25, respectively. All participants received an award certificate and gift item.

Cary, Maplewood School: 3rd grader Courtney Capra, honorable mention.

Crystal Lake, Bernotas Middle School: 6th graders Zach Dermont, 2nd place and Jillian Burns, 3rd place.

Crystal Lake, St. Thomas the Apostle School: 6th grader Charlotte Buettner, 1st place; 4th grader Mia Carzoli , 2nd place; 4th graders Jacob Tarlow and Sarah Moran, honorable mention.

Ingleside, Gavin Central School: 4th grader Alexandra Nixon, 3rd place; 3rd grader Megan Winfrey, honorable mention.

Lake Barrington, Home Schooled: 4th grader Lorenzo Pizarro, 1st place; 2nd grader Elena Pizarro, 2nd place.

Lake Forest, School of St. Mary PGC: 3rd graders Jonathan Schoenheider, 1st place, Katie Hanson, 2nd place and Spencer Ryan Welte, 3rd place.

Lake Villa, Prince of Peace School: 4th grader Aubrey Jacildo, honorable mention.

Mundelein, Lincoln School: 5th grader Morgan Lohr, 3rd place.

Mundelein, Washington School: 5th grader Xiadani Figueroa, honorable mention.

Vernon Hills, Aspen Elementary School: 5th grader Paige Kibbler, 1st place; 5th grader Lara Mae Vitanzo, honorable mention.
