Bathrooms may be wet and slippery, but you can make yours safer: - Get tubs and whirlpools with slip-resistant bottoms, or add a mat that will to do the job.
- Install grab bars all around (don’t count on towel bars).
- Place clothes hooks above eye level so eye injury is avoided if someone slips.
- Don’t build more than one step up to your bathtub or whirlpool; no step is preferable.
- Choose vanities and doors with rounded edges.
- Make sure the bathroom door opens out, so no one is trapped inside if they fall against it.
- Consider faucets with a hot-limit safety stop feature and anti-scald pressure balanced shower valves.

- Set your hot water heater no higher than 130ºF.
- Use small ceramic tiles or less-slippery floor material; avoid scatter rugs that can slide around.
- Provide a pullout step to help the little ones use the sink.
- Include seating where ever possible, especially in the shower.
- Use lots of light, including lighted switches and night lights.
Never leave small children alone in the bathtub, not even for a split second to answer the phone.
